Margaret's Process
Process: Beginning with a small original composition created from physical and digital layers, the work is printed commercially in larger format on linen cotton canvas.
When the fabric arrives in the studio, the surface is painted in layers of glazed water soluble mediums. The process allows for the printed image to be altered to improve the overall composition. The surface is further embellished with hand carved stamps, collage, and drawing on its surface.
In the final stage, the painted canvas is layered like a quilt with non-woven batting, and densely woven backing fabric. Using a sewing machine, stitching creates a contour drawing and surface patterns with colored thread ..All the raw edges are finished by hand. The soft canvas floats on a support slat from the wall.
